The Ancient Siam Civilization of Wat Ayothaya
Wat Ayuthaya was the first of several temples we visited on our third day of airport closure in November 2008 when we fled from the city and spent time outside in the relaxed atmosphere of Ayutthaya. We rented a tuk tuk (no other choice here) for the day and went from one temple to the next. Located on one of the small roads leading to the eastern side of Ayutthaya, Wat Ayuthaya is an ancient temple but really well maintained. A large statue called Phra Sri Ayuthaya is the main attraction of the Ubosot, which is otherwise not decorated or painted. Ruins of two ancient chedi's are located behind the Ubosot.
