The Ancient Siam Civilization of Prasat Nakhon Luang
Visiting Prasat Nakhon Luang at the Pasak River, we were overwhelmed by the sheer size of its compound. We had expected a quick visit which turned into several hours. Built by King Prasat Thong in A.D.1631 after his victory over the Khmer forces the King tried to build something which resembled Angkor Wat to some degree. The huge parking lot and the park-like atmosphere showed the former glory of this place. Today it was rather neglected and nobody seemed to take care of it anymore, which is a shame. Several pagodas with sacred statues and rocks are located before the huge Prasat complex. The actual Wat Prasat Nakhon Luang on the same compound was completely deserted and locked.
