The Ancient Siam Civilization of Wat Ratchaburana
During the Ayutthaya period this must have been a wonderful temple, following the early Ayutthaya period's layout where the main prang (visible through door above) forms the temple's main axis. In 1767 it was burnt down by the Burmese army and remained undisturbed until treasure hunters excavated the treasure room under the prang and stole invaluable pieces or art. Those could be captured though and are now on display in the Chao Sam Phraya National Museum. We visited this temple in the rainy season which had the advantage of no other tourists on the compound.
