Wat Mahathat

Wat Mahathat is the most sacred part of the old capital. Buddha relics were enshrined in the Mahathat Chedi. It was once the residence of the Supreme Patriarch. The main prang of the temple survived the Burmese destruction of the city but collapsed in 1904. Most of the temple is in ruins now.
