Si Satchanalai is the former twin town of Sukhothai and lies
about 55km to the North of it in the extreme North of the central plain. It’s
natural setting along the River Yom, surrounded by forest, make it worth the
long trip. It was founded around 1250 and was the seat of the viceroy or crown
prince of Sukhothai. It fell to the kingdom of Ayutthaya in the
17th century, declined in importance and when the Burmese were about to
attack again, it was abandoned. |
