The big jade Buddha at

Wat Dhammamongkol

The big jade Buddha was a dream of Phra Viriyang Sirintharo, the Lord Abbot of the temple. He found a suitable block of jade (nephrite) in Canada. A 32 ton block of jade was found and the Buddha image above was carved out of a 14 ton piece after it was shipped from Canada to Thailand. Phra Buddha Mongkolthammasrithai is a Rattanakosin-style Buddha image. The ceiling above the Buddha image shows many scenes of the life of Prince Siddartha Gotama and later the Buddha.
