Wat Phra Kaeo
At this temple the well known Emerald Buddha image was found initially. It is now enshrined in Bangkok's Wat Phra Kaeo while the image here, Phra Yok Chiang Rai, is a recent sister Buddha image. The official name of it is Phra Buddha Ratanakorn Nawuttiwasa Nusornmongkhol and is of Chiang Saen style. It is Chiang Rai's principle temple, thus it was also the first one we visited during our 5 day stay. Many tour operators just spend a day here, but Chiang Rai has so much to offer that it is well worth to spend more time here. In the Viharn is another important Buddha image enshrined - Phra Chao Lan Thong.
