Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat
From the old 13th century Khmer structures in Lopburi town, we chose to visit Prang Sam Yot and Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat. It is a large compound with a large Prang in the center and was the principal center of Louvo, the old name of Lopburi. Several structures were added during the reign of King Narai the Great. The Fine Arts Department is still working on some of the old lintels and stucco art work. Wat Mahathat is mainly a Bayon and Lopburi-style temple with some elements from Baphuon and Angkor Wat. Contrary to other Thai temples there is an entrance fee here as in all ancient monuments and sites.
