Wat Phutta En
A long way from Chiang Mai city in the beautiful Mae Chaem valley did we find the absolute highlights of our 3000km trip through the North (the second trip that is). 4 rural temples all nestled in their natural environment where every turn reveals something new to see. Wat Phutta En, build in 1868 was the first bot nam I had ever seen. The Ubosot sits on wooden piles in a pond of water with Lotus flowers. There is also a spring of water that is drinkable and our driver was brave enough to take a whole bottle with him. We also loved the richly decorated Viharn, the red ho trai on pillars and the old drums on wheels that are displayed at the temple.
