Wat Phra That Doi Kong Moo
Cosidered the most important temple of Mae Hong Son City, Wat Phra That Doi Kong Moo sits atop the mountain with the same name, overlooking the city and offering a really great view. Unfortunately this is also the reason why every tourist will be brought up here. We saw busloads of German tourists, when we visited :-) An obviously needed poster tells tourists the "do and don't" of temple behaviour. The two chedi's are in Thai Yai-style and were built in 1860 and 1874. When we visited in November 2005 a cold front had just hit the mountains and the mountain tribes people were falling victim to the cold. The monks were offering blankets for poor people as a donation option to make merit.
