Wat Mahachai
Nong Bua Lamphu was one of those Provinces where almost every temple was closed, which sparked a lively discussion with our team about the value of temples for the people if they are closed. Anyway, if it had been open during our visit, we would have loved to see Phra Bang a beautiful pair of standing Lan Chang-style Buddha images. After our initial visit in 2006 we went back another time in 2008. Not an easy undertaking because Nong Bua Lamphu isn't really your everyday way to work. Even when we spoke to a senior monk that second time the temple was not opened for us. Reason given was that the Buddha image was far too expensive to be displayed to anyone. Well, our advise would be to place it in the national museum. The temple itself looked as deserted as during our first visit.
