Wat Klang

Wat Klang

Wat Klang was one of our highlights on the entire trip through Isan (besides the fact that the whole province was a highlight). The temple buildings are elaborately decorated. The main reason for our excitement however was the beautiful Lan Chang-style black Buddha image of Phra Chao Ong Dam. It is also called Phra Buddha Samrit Nirarokhantarai. It is located in a beautiful pavilion in a building behind the Phra Ubosot. Unfortunately it is all behind glass and sits behind other statues, which made my photographer heart hurt :-)  But the long talk with the abbot of the temple and the available information about the image helped a lot. Phra Chao Ong Dam originally came from Luang Phrabang in Laos and is used for rain making ceremonies.
