Phra Maha Chedi Chai Mongkol
Sometimes taking a wrong turn-off can be a wonderful thing. While on the way to Mukdahan province we took a wrong turn and accidentially came to this wonderful chedi in Roi Et province. It is one of the largest chedis in Thailand and while not 100% finished when we visited during August of 2006, several levels of the chedi were so elaborately decorated that we spent several hours on the grounds to see everything. The Chedi is loacted on the grounds of Wat Pha Namthip Thep Prasit Vararam and on the high Namyoi cliff, overlooking the rice fields and Phu Kiew Wildlife Sancturary. On the very top level are the relics of Lord Buddha located but a steep and long walk needs to be done first (unless the elevator works)
