Wat Phradit Thammakhun

Wat Phradit Thammakhun or Wat Hawkong is located on the banks of the Mekong River. It is a small temple which contains the important and highly respected statue of Phra Sao, another beautiful Buddha statue of Nong Khai. The abbot wants the temple closed to the public (at least during our visit in November 2006) to protect the statues from being stolen. A very sad fact which stayed with us through many of the border towns. Phra Sao is a beautiful Lan Chang-style statue and we respect the Abbots wish and will not publish a picture of the inside of the temple.
