Phra That Si Song Rak
The Phra That Si Song Rak and it's temple are located in the district of Dan Sai in Loei province. It has been our first temple when visiting Loei and we added an extra few hundred kilometers to our trip to allow ample time for this very important Buddhist site. Built in 1560 as a symbol of the relationships between the kingdom of Ayutthaya and Lan Chang, this temple is very different from other Thai temples. No objects in red should be offered as well as no red cloths should be worn here because the color stands for blood and violence. No umbrella's, hats or shoes can be worn and no children under 3 years should enter. Even performing religious acts are done in a different way here. So called "Ton Phueng" made from bamboo and candles are the typical religious offering here. Our trip through Loei was a very special experience and we dedicate these pages to our friend from Loei who disrobed as a monk not long before our trip!
