Wat Pong Yang Khok
This small temple north of the famous Wat Phra That Lampang Luang is one of our favorites. The ancient viharn of the temple is truely a treasure and it is not often that we see such a wonderful building. The interior of this open-sided building from the 17th century makes a special trip to this temple worthwhile. The viharn is called Viharn Phra Mae Chao Chama Thewi and refers to Queen Chama Thewi. A small statue of her is placed before the stucco Ku, where the main Buddha image is enshrined. When we visited, a special ceremony had just been finished to bless and install the statue of a former ruler inside the viharn. As a special treat we were given some pieces of the cloth, which was placed on the image during the ceremony.
