Wat Nong Pa Phong
To the south of Ubon town is Wat Nong Pa Phong, located on a huge compound amongst the trees. Phong trees, to be exact, hence the name of the temple. This temple is a VERY quiet temple. Almost no sound can be heard. The pagoda contains the relics of the famous meditation monk Luang Phor Cha. In January 2009 we went back with an older family member who actually worked for Luang Phor Cha to attend a fair inside the temple and the atmosphere was completely different. Thousands of people had gathered at the temple, most dressed in white and tents were set up in the forested area filled with people who came for meditation classes. Hundreds of monks, followed by worshippers walked around the the temple grounds three times as a merit making event.
