The Ancient Siam Civilization of Wat Thammikkarat
Everytime we visit Ayutthaya we find yet another temple "just around the corner". I am probably driving my travel team crazy when pulling yet another temple out of my hat, but Wat Thammikkarat or Tammigratch is a "must do" stop in Ayutthaya. It is also an ancient temple here and besides the ruined buildings it contains a large sleeping Buddha image in a building next to the entrance. A bell-shaped chedi with a lion base is located in the front of the large viharn. The Ubosot behind it has a large white seated Buddha image inside. The replica of a beautiful Buddha head is also on display, while the original head sits in the Museum in Ayutthaya, as the abbot of the temple explained to us.
