Wat Phra That Sop Waen
A
special temple to visit was Wat Phra That Sop Waen in the North of Chiang Kham
town. At first sight the temple seemed closed and we admired the beautiful white
chedi in the back of the large Viharn. But then we realized that a very young
novice came towards us to open the Viharn for us and to show us the rest of the
temple. Besides three larger Buddha images there is a beautiful preaching chair
inside the Viharn. To the side of the Viharn and the Ubosot stands a giant tree and some of the visitors just come to see the Chamchuri
tree.
It is more than one hundred years old and has a span of more then 43 meters.
Another novice then took us to a small building outside the temple where local
village women weave cotton cloths, scarves and other colourful items. A small
museum is also located to the side of the Viharn showing traditional items and
cloths of the local tribal people.
