Wat Pho Si
Wat Pho Si or Wat Sri Maha Pho was the last one we visited in Mukdahan Province during our first trip in 2002. Not because we were fed up with visiting temples, but because it took us forever to find this one and then our car died at the time. However, Wat Pho Si, was well worth the long search. It certainly had the smallest Ubosot (main hall) with a fascinating interior. Beautifully carved ceilings and wonderful mural paintings. We also met a very friendly monk who opened the Ubosot for a private photo session and had a conversation with me that went far beyond my Thai language skills. On our second visit to the temple, several buildings were under construction in 2007 and a huge seated Buddha image covered with a serpent head was located along the Mekong. Right next to it was the city pillar, which was also enshrined in a new structure.
