Wat Tham Pa Asha Thong
Wat Tham Pa Asha Thong, the temple of the Golden Horse, is probably the least exciting temple for photography but definitely one of the best temples we had been to in our years of temple visits around the country. The temple is well known for it's novices and monks who have to go on alms round by horse. The road up to the mountain is too steep to walk and to far from the next village. There is no gold and glitter at this temple and no famous Buddha statues but it is a temple who takes teaching the Buddhist knowledge very serious. We had the pleasure to meet Phra Khru Bah Nuachai Kosito and made our donation to the temple, providing the novices with school equipment and other items in need. What was planned as a short stop over on the way to Doi Mae Salong turned into a 4 hour discourse on meditation with the famous Khru Bah. A very special place up in the mountains of Chiang Rai with a very unconventional teacher who has to defend his own way of teaching the dhamma with the more established temples and organizations in Bangkok.
