Wat Hua Krabue

One of our frequent visitors to chimburi.com from Germany made us aware of Wat Hua Krabue in January 2009, so we went to visit it. There was actually a TV show in Germany about this temple and the fact that it has one of the largest old-timer collections in the country, mostly old Mercedes Benz cars. The abbot of the temple has initiated a program where young people learn how to fix cars and hopefully find a way of living this way.

We spent quite some time at the temple as the number of fixed cars, broken cars and simply parts only is huge. The temple buildings are not of any architectural importance. Local people come to the temple to worship a Buddha statue of Luang Phor To and there is quite a large selection of amulets and other items which are up for sale. On the side of the temple are hundreds of buffalo skulls, from which the temple has its name and life buffalos were also running around in the temple. The temple was in the process of building a wall against the rising waters from the nearby canal to protect it from flooding; however most of the former bridges were gone, which made the temple difficult to reach in early 2009.
