Wat Tham Yai
Wat Tham Yai, the temple of the big cave, is located on the backside of the mountain Khao Prasong. We picked this temple as our first temple in the province of Surat Thani because of it's importance, given that it is one of three places where the ashes of the venerable Phutthathat Phikkhu were enshrined. The cave and the temple are very remote and if you pick the dirt road, like we did, you feel that you will never get there. The site has been used as a religious site since late Ayutthaya-times. Hundreds of Buddha statues are located in the caves, while the relics of Phutthathat Phikku are kept in a structure in the temple.
