Wat Wiang
Wat Wiang is the third of three temples that were built in the same time frame as Wat Phra Boromathat Chaiya. Local people told us that the actual site of the ancient Wat Wiang is not exactly known because modern houses have been built in this area. The modern temple Wat Wiang which is a little bit down the road from what is believed to having been the ancient site houses a modern Ubosot and three old Buddha statues. Historical records say that Wat Wiang was built to house the image of Vatcharapani Bodhisattva. What we saw in the temple however were modern young people who asked us for cigarettes and who used a very bad language with us to show of how "cool" they were. Quite a bad mix for such an ancient temple but symptomatic for today's times.
