Wat Phatthanaram
Since none of our guidebooks offered any suggestions on visiting temples on the city of Surat Thani itself, we had to go on a discovery trip and explore several temples by chance. Our first temple in the city, Wat Phatthanaram, proofed to be a very important temple indeed. Lots of people came here to pay respect to the much reverred monk Luang Phor Phat (hence the name of the temple). A statue of the late monk is located in a pavilion which was just being completed while we visited. The huge viharn had no Buddha images that were visible to us, which was very strange for us. Later on our trip through the South we actually met the current abbot of this important temple and learned more about it's history.
