Wat Nantharam
After a long day in the city of Nakhon Si Thammarat and visiting more than a dozen temples we still drove towards the coast to visit Wat Nantharam, the last temple on our list. The temple is known for it's main Buddha image, a Lan Chang-style seated Buddha called Luang Phor Pud (some sources say it is an Ayutthaya-style image). At the time of our visit in 2009 the Buddha was still housed in an old-style wooden wihan in a pond filled with lotus flowers, however huge posters already called for donations to build a modern hall for it. In the park-like setting of the temple are also other statues as well as an ancient phallus symbol, said to be over 1200 years old.
