Wat Bang Sao Dtong

Wat Bang Sao Dtong

A very special visit was our invitation to meet friends who are monks in Wat Bang Sao Dtong in Bangkok's  Bangkok Noi district. The temple is located along the Khlong Mon canal which is frequented by lots of tourist boats. I received a very warm welcome at the temple and was introduced to the abbot of the temple who showed me around the temple grounds. Several English language publications have been written by monks residing in this temple and the affiliated Buddhist University.

Tourists who are taken into the nearby canal can stop at the temple pier where friendly monks hand out food for the fish in the river for a small donation. Several tourists we saw did not want to buy any fish food even though it is just a couple of Thai Baht and we had a brief discussion on that subject with the monks. Many western or non-buddhist tourists do not really see feeding fish as a merit making activity and seem a bit helpless when the boat and their tour guides want to offer this opportunity.
