Phra Pathom Chedi / Wat Phra Pathom Chedi Rajaworamahaviharn
The "holiest and first among chedis" is the tallest Buddhist building in the world and rises to 127 meters. It stands in the old city of Nakhon Pathom, which seems to be one of the oldest cities in Thailand. Scriptures mention it as early as AD 675. The first chedi at this location was probably built much earlier. In one of the 4 wiharns is a 8 meter (26 ft) standing Buddha statue in Sukhothai style with the unbelievably long name "Phra Ruang Rojanarit Sri Inthrathit Thammophas Mahawachirawutharaj Puchaniyabophitr". The temple, which surrounds the chedi, belongs to only a few temples of the kingdom honored with the highest temple rank.
